Architect: Alex Russell
Renovation: Mike Clayton & colleagues

Lake Karrinyup is Alex Russell’s best and only course west of Royal Melbourne. 2,000 miles away in Perth, he laid out holes across broad hills where several blind tee shots set up beautiful-looking second shots down hills to his excellent green complexes. Being so far from his home state and not having the aid of Mick Morcom at his disposal meant that construction never quite reached the quality of his work at Royal Melbourne and Yarra Yarra.

In 2007/08, Mike and his colleagues John Sloan and Bruce Grant rebuilt the bunkers and reimagined several greens altered long after Russell completed his design in the early 1930s.

Having hosted the Australian Open four times between 1954 and 1974, after the renovation, the club hosted the Perth Invitational, a tournament co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australia and the European Tour, four times between 2012 and 2016.
